Oppo talk some sense into me, what would you buy?
Up first is this boy racer. Has higher mileage, would need at least the wing gone and a more subtle front bumper. BUT might be worth it for those ITBs.

Next is this low mileage turbo. I hate silver, but it looks “clean” enough to me.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Now for something more stock. Its really low and has an intake, besides that seems about perfect for its mileage and price with a hardtop.

Last but certainly not least is this just pretty, all stock with the OEM hardtop S2k (its a 2006, that headline is the only place it says 2000). Rare, blue with red interior too.

If it’s a daily, the blue one. If it’s not, the turbo.

Stock. Or yellow, and put some more useable suspension on it. ITBs and turbos are fun, but it’s even more fun to get a blank canvas, appreciate the car in its stock form and then make it your own.

Stock blue one, all day every day. You don’t want to end up like this guy:

Do you really trust the engine build in a car that looks like it drove off the set of a low-budget F&F clone?

Ughhh the modded ones. Don’t buy a modded s2k! It's gotta be completely stock and then you can do what you want with it. These cars are so perfect in stock form but so many of them are riced out window.

I’d go with one of the clean hardtops.

Well its at a premium for a reason lol. Idk, there are of course some mods that I think will degrade the value without making the car questionable to own. Both the red and silver ones here scream DONT BUY to me, but I am generally scared off by body kits of any sort. The hard tops look so nice on the blue and yellow ones! Are those stockers?

So what is a fair price for a sub-60K mile 2000 S2000 in red? Asking... for a friend...

Mods, in their entirety:
H&R springs
K&N air filter
soft top replaced, including updating to the glass rear window

Yellow, ditch the hard top and drive it the way it was intended. Love, love, love the S2000.
Looks lowered but not really messed with. I think a set of bolt-ons is about as far as the mods go but I could be way off. Don’t be afraid of bolt-on mods. As long as they haven’t gone into the head, bottom end, or a crazy tune, they haven’t really hurt the motor. Springs, shocks, exhaust, intake, and all that are easy to change out to what you want.

As much as I love the blue one, I could never do red interior.

Blue or red. Stay away from the turbo. As much fun as it would be, it can only end poorly.

The blue hardtop is the stock one. The yellow is aftermarket, I want to say Mugen but could be wrong.
But yea you’re not wrong. I’m sure the tuned cars would make great weekend toys. But since I’m looking for a DD, its best to play it safe.

I’d guess $15k? I’m no expert and I’ve been mostly looking at AP2s, but you could probably get one that cheap.

Yea that one is too low but just on mileage/price is a better deal than the blue one. But for my case in particular, I want to try out convertible life and I live in Michigan. So having the ability to put the hard top on in the winter seems like a good middle ground.

But really, a S2k is borderline too common for my hipster-self.

Actually my dad’s perpetually looking to move on from his, so that’s what he’s got. We have no idea what it’s actually worth as a near-stock example.

I did a little searching and its a pretty wide spread from $10-22k. I think it really depends on condition and where you’re at. California and Florida have saturated markets, whereas there are only like 2 for sale around Detroit.
I like using CarGurus becasue it gives you a good/bad deal spectrum based on others cars.

And you can buy a Miata and make it way faster than an S2k for what they are asking for some of those
